Day 40. Karratha. 5.8.26

Day 21 of our tour. 

Free day to explore. 

No alarm needed when there's galahs around. We decided to have an easy day and drove out to Dampier to explore a few things. It's another dry, hot day so we headed to the National Park first so avoid the heat.

Round about art work is popular. 

We stopped to look at the Dampier Salt Operations. DSL focuses on sustainable, premium salt production in thriving environments. DSL is joint venture between Rio Tinto (68% ownership), Marubeni Corporation (22%) and Sojitz (10%).

Some of the salt ponds had little characters to spot in them. 

We continued on to Hearsons Cove where we found heaps of red jellyfish. 

Seagulls were very happy. 

We took a detour through a dirt track.

On the way into Dampier town we came across the Red Dog statue. 

Had an early lunch at a Cafe with great views.

The regulars got a bit friendly.

Stopped at a few lookouts along the esplanade. 

Our last lookout for the day was for the mining trains. Unfortunately no trains were moving.

Wednesday is pub night at home so we couldn't refuse an invitation to join others from our tour group to dinner at the Grand Central Tavern.

We have a long day on the road tomorrow so a reasonably early night.
